How do I get rid of wild onions in my yard?
filed in Home & Garden on Mar.21, 2010
Our new house has a wonderful huge yard, that is being overran by wild onions. How can I get rid of these inexpensively? How should I take care of my yard yearly to ensure they don’t come back and to have a nice healthy green yard. I have a very limited budget like most working class people and dont have much to spend for the yard. Thanks in advance.

Chemical eradication is difficult and requires years. The cheap way is to get a little hand weeding tool – just a few dollars – and spend an hour or so every day until you get all the clumps.dug up. Then, a few weeks later, do it again! But this time there will be a lot fewer, and then even fewer the next time around. It’s laborious, I know – I did it myself! – but it’s cheap, it’s good exercise. and you are not spreading dangerous chemicals onto your lawn. If you insist on using chemicals, you can try 2,4-D or dicamba, MCPP, or some other broadleaf herbicides. I strongly recommend contacting your county extension agent before doing this.
